Some people think fishtanks and sea-horses are the most boring thing to waste your weekend on. What's so tasty about watching a fish?? It is better to spend time on grilling it on a barbeque grill with a dash of lemon and spices. But I wish they would spend a little time feeling the heartbeat of a majestic Swordfish or feed a Stingray. A school of glow in the dark Jellyfish can magically sparkle up your night. Finding Nemo amidst bright colourful waving sea weeds can lighten up your day. It is such a privilege to watch a gigantic but beautiful blue shark wagging it's tail at you or a tiny but glittering seahorse following your finger pokes and rubbing its nose against it. They are such unparalleled creations of Mother Nature that can actually make you gasp. And your intimate moments with them would actually stay with you much longer than while you had had them for lunch.

It was our Anniversary. Let me clear it out at this point. This day, 14th February was the day my soulmate and I had officially declared our love for each other and had promised to grow old together. We had just completed school then and started our Bachelor's degree of Technology in College together. Marriage was far away but we knew we were going to stick together as best friends till we can tie the knot. So this day was no less important than our Wedding Day. We celebrate this day as our Anniversary every year. Moreover it was Valentine's day. This is an added advantage we get every year on our special day. I was totally confused with how to plan for a perfect romantic date specially when it was snowing everyday that week.Then I stumbled upon this Valentine's special "Under the Sea" Romance package offered by Downtown Aquarium. The offer included a romantic four course dinner at the Downtown Aquarium Restaurant with live entertainment, including a Rose and a romantic snap and unlimited couple passes to the Aquarium exhibits. That was my first gasp. And Oh! That was the perfect package for us. A perfect surprise to plan for my husband. I didn't tell him until it was time to set off for our big day. I gave him the address and it was just a 15mins ride to the venue. His initial reaction was "why aquarium"? By the time we reached it had started snowing and thank God for the excellent management of the workers , we had collected our bands and were soon inside the exhibit building. It started with smaller tropical fishes and my husband was still trying to find out "why aquarium"? Suddenly there was a sharp turn and we were at the Wet Zone. A sudden shriek and gasp when lights went really dim and there was a artificial flood through the hanging bridge. That was my second gasp since I had booked the package. We moved forward through few more colorful fish exhibits waiting for our next surprise.
And Oh! That was my third gasp. A huge Royal Bengal Tiger in its full glory jumped down a foot high waterfall and landed right next to me. It looked straight into my husband's eyes whose position was incidentally right in front of him. He had his first gasp. We stood still in awe and joy as the Tiger roared to its mate sitting right by the waterfall whom we had yet not noticed. May be it was trying to introduce us to it's spouse like I introduced it to mine. And Oh! She was way more majestic and Royal than me. We were nothing but plain human beings in front of their glory.
It took us some time and quite a lot of snaps and selfies to move on from there. As we strolled through the tangled roots of the rainforest trees , yet another gasp was waiting for us. We found ourselves inside the tanks. A huge old Tortoise lazily swam over our heads. A big blue Sting Ray glided right over me as I dodged but spread out my hands to feel it's fins. Now that was up close and personal.
I wanted to stay there forever but you have to move on.As we were still recovering from the ecstasy we were in for our next gasp. It was right in front of us and under our feet too. The Shark Tank. Oh! That was the first time I was seeing a huge blue shark right in front of me. Within a fraction of a moment we realised there were more than five huge Sharks all around us and two Swordfishes,the length of a DUECE bus. They were huge and fierce but so calm and peaceful. Making full declaration of the truth that they are incredible creations of Mother Nature coexisting on mutual trust and in no way monsters, like human beings can be on each other.
As we moved on through the activity area and fed a few Sting Rays following instructions of the coordinator,we were just another step closer to understanding and appreciating some of the most majestic creations of God. We still had bit of time before dinner and we went outside the exhibit area for a walk. It had stopped snowing and the sky was so blue. There is an adventure park right next to the Aquarium and we decided to take a lazy stroll with coffee ,holding hands , as we usually do when we are very happy and overwhelmed. It helps us feel the moment and keep it locked up safely in our hearts. I won't write about the adventure park in my current blog as it needs a whole blog for itself. So you have to wait for that. Anyways, it was time for dinner and we were at the reception of the restaurant. The staff was so friendly and were really excited to hear that it was our Anniversary too.
We followed the staff inside and Oh! This was a big Gasp!! It was as if we were literally "Under The Sea". We were given a table right next to a school of Tiger print fishes. The choices on menu were all mouthwatering. As the waiter served the welcome drinks I had not realised when the staff had sneaked a big red rose into my husband's hands and he was on his knees like every Anniversary proposing to me yet again , with yet another fresh proposal for me to say "Yes" to. This year was the 9th year of my first "Yes" to him for accepting him as my boyfriend and now we were married for a year. So he proposed me to become Mommy to his baby whenever I was ready. And I gladly said "Yes" as I have had a year of experience in hand in mothering him. It was a perfect start to our dinner. But Oh! I was almost choked at my welcome drink and as I finished my drink I found the most amazingly beautiful heart shaped Ruby on an intricate Gold band!! This was my Anniversary gift from my husband in return to my wonderful surprise plan.
As we indulged ourselves in the food and some really touching conversation we were in for another huge gasp yet again. "Under The Sea" from Little Mermaid was on full swing when a group of Mermaids swam in around us making our moment truly magical. The beautiful Mermaids danced inside the tanks helping us retreat into our fantasy and danced with each other like no one else existed. Just the two of us, the dancing Mermaids and music pouring into our hearts. A perfect Anniversary dinner date we will remember for the rest of our lives and relive every now and then or whenever we see a fishtank. Fishtanks are not that boring to us anymore.
